Bartha Ágnes

1943 -

Biography

She was born in 1943 as a daughter of an artist family. Her grandfather was a sculptor and her parents were painters. She spent her childhood in her parents' studio and her choice to adopt a profession of art was obvious. After secondary school she studied at József Engelsz, a goldsmith, who taught her the elements of the craft. She finished her studies in Paris. According to her confession her periodic journeys to Paris used to be her universities. In 1970 she had her first self-contained exhibition also in the Quartier Latin. She creates her pictures, objects and jewels with an ancient technique called " Transylvanian" with Limoge-enamel. Ágnes Bartha is the only representative of this method - she has completed it with a spacial baking process worked out by herself. She works up the place of enamel by chasing and forms the figure by dishing. So the picture is complied from both the structure of chased cells and the engraved motives under the enamel. The higher temperature at baking enables to make Limoge-enamel turned into copper without grounding.
Her poetically inspired and sacral pieces can be found in museums, churches, public institutions and private collections. The "Crossroad" and the "Four Evangelists" of the catholic church in Gábor Baross Estate in Budapest, the enamelled casket of the Hungarian Chapel in Vatican, the meditational crucifix of St. Mark Church in Vienna, the cover for the Missal of State in Pannonhalma Abbey, the enamelled wall-picture of Hotel Pannónia in Pécs, and of the Kalocsa Archbishopric and the Bird-clock of Hungarian Foreign Trading Bank in Pósa-house, Veszprém are all her works.
